Copyright Law is a giant ball and chain that is drowning the public&#8217;s ability to make use of the many resources that are provided to them. One major group of people who are greatly affected by copyright law are educators, and more specifically, music educators. Take a band conductor, for example, who purchases a score for his/her concert band. Now, imagine that there is one more alto saxophone player than there are copies of the alto sax part. The easiest thing to do, and most likely what most conductors would do, is to go make a photocopy of the music for that student. However, according to copyright law, taking this action is illegal unless the conductor can get permission from the publishing company. This means that he/she will have to go out and purchase an entire new score in order to obtain the single saxophone part. It is issues like this one that plague music educators in today&#8217;s world.
